However there is one field the Greeks have mastered in, mathematics that we do not appreciate as much as we should be. Therefore this article summarizes the greatest personalities in the ancient Greek history. Being a mathematician is not an easy task but the Greek seems to have mastered in the field. Here is a list of the top 15 famous Greek mathematicians and their contributions!</p>
<p><span style="font-size: x-large;">1. Euclid</span><br />

He was also known as Euclid of Alexandria and referred as the father of geometry deduced the Euclidean geometry. The name has it all, which in Greek means &#8220;renowned, glorious&#8221;. He worked his entire life in the field of mathematics and made revolutionary contributions to geometry.</p>

<p>Xenocrates is known to have written a book on numbers, theory of numbers and geometry. He had the unique talent of calculating the syllables out of an alphabet. One attempted to find the total number of syllables that could be made from the letters of the alphabet.</p>

Antiphon was the first to give an upper and lower bound for the values of Pi by inscribing and then circumscribing a polygon around a circle and finally proceeding to calculate the polygons areas. The method was applied to squaring the circle. He made comprehensive changes in the world of mathematics through his profound knowledge over the subject such that is known and applied in the modern day.</p>

Diocles was a philosopher, priest, an emperor, mathematician and geometer. This famous mathematician was most popularly known for his work in the sub classification of geometry. His name is associated with the geometric curve called the Cissoid of Diocles. This method was used in solving the problem of doubling the cube.</p>

The Indian geniuses have made revolutionary changes in the world of mathematics and made advancements and specializations in the world today. Therefore it is important for us to appreciate these fifteen famous Indian mathematicians and find out exactly what they have contributed for us!</p>
<p><span style="font-size: x-large;">1. Srinivasa Ramanujan</span><br />

Ramanujan the mathematical genius taught himself math after he dropped out of high school due to his failure in the English subject. He is most famously known for his contribution in analytical theory of numbers, elliptic functions, continued fractions and infinite series. He was also invited to England on his set of 120 theorems that he sent to Cambridge. He further made many mathematical demonstrations in his lifetime, all of which are beyond the scope of this article. He taught a greater valuable lesson, that failure isn’t permanent as he did not let his failure bring him down and continued to teach himself mathematics, which he was passionate about. He has been the inspiration of many mathematicians, not just in India but all over the world.</p>

Aryabhata from ancient history was actually the first person to figure out that earth was spherical and revolved around the sun, thereby discovering the nine planets and calculating the correct number of days in a year were 365. She went ahead to compete with UNIVAC the world’s fastest computer to solve the 23<sup>rd</sup> root of a 201 digit number and she won that too! A woman with outstanding talent and outrageous world records!</p>

His most significant contribution in mathematics was his initial version of the Fibonacci sequence. He was not only a mathematician but also a scholar, polymath, poet who wrote on grammar, philosophy and contemporary history. She was also the first of to be honored with a Fields Medal, one of the most valuable and prestigious award in mathematics, she achieved the award for her work in understanding the symmetry of curved surfaces. Mirazakhani is currently working as a professor of mathematics at Stanford University. She’s an outstanding, inspirational and admirable woman.</p>
